HR (HRM)

Languages and local formats

Run HR in more than one language: give each employee their own language, show dates in the Hijri or Bengali calendar beside the usual date, write dates, numbers and addresses the way the employee's country does, and publish job openings in several languages on your careers page.

Contents: Who can use it · An employee's language · Country formats · Local calendars · Holidays that follow the moon · Careers page in more languages · Example · FAQ

Who can use it

  • Your own language: everyone, from the language switcher in the top bar. No permission is needed.
  • An employee's language: staff who can edit employees.
  • Country formats and local calendars: anyone who works with employees, holidays or openings sees them automatically once the legal entity has a country pack.
  • Opening translations: staff with the opening Update permission write and publish them; anyone who can see the opening can read them.
  • Every plan includes these features.

An employee's language

Open the employee, click Edit and pick a Language. Choose Follow the company language to use the language of the employee's legal entity, or of the workspace.

The language decides what the employee receives:

What In which language
Notifications and emails to the employee The employee's language
HR letters (appointment, experience, salary certificate...) The employee's language, when a letter template exists in it; otherwise the template without a language
Answers from the HR assistant The language the employee writes in, with their language as the hint
The screens The language the employee picks in the top bar. Their own choice always wins over the one HR set

Right-to-left languages such as Arabic turn the whole screen, the letters and the PDFs right to left. Names, numbers and dates keep their own order inside the text.

Which languages are offered? English and the languages 9bx support has switched on for everyone. Arabic and Chinese are switched on once their translation has been reviewed. Ask 9bx support if you need a language that is not in the list.

Country formats

When a legal entity has a country pack (under Settings → Legal entities), the pack tells 9bx how that country writes things:

Format Example
Date and time 20/03/2026, 14:30
First day of the week and the weekend Week starts Sunday, weekend Friday and Saturday
Numbers 1.234.567,50 or 12,34,567.50
Addresses Which lines come first, what the region is called ("Emirate", "Province"), which parts are required, the postal code pattern
A second calendar Hijri or Bengali, shown beside the usual date

Addresses. On Employee → Addresses, the form follows the country: the fields come in the country's order, with its own names and a hint for the postal code. An address in that country cannot be saved without the required parts or with a postal code in the wrong pattern ("Write the postal code like this: 5 digits."). An address in another country (a permanent home abroad) is not checked.

Without a country pack, the workspace's own date and time format is used and no second calendar is shown.

Local calendars

When the country pack names a local calendar, dates on the HR screens (holidays, leave and attendance calendars, your profile) show the local date beside the usual one, for example 20 Mar 2026 · 1 Shawwal 1447.

Calendar Notes
Hijri (Umm al-Qura) The civil Hijri calendar used in the Gulf
Hijri (tabular) The arithmetic Hijri calendar
Bengali The revised Bengali calendar: the year starts on 14 April

Hijri dates are calculated. A holiday that depends on the moon being sighted can fall a day earlier or later; see below.

Holidays that follow the moon

A country pack can list holidays that follow the Hijri calendar (Eid, for example) with how many days they last. When you install the pack with its holidays, 9bx adds them for this year and next year on the calculated dates. Each year on 1 November it adds the year after.

These are ordinary holidays on HR → Holidays → Holiday list: when the official date is announced and differs by a day, open the holiday and move it. 9bx never adds the same holiday twice on the same date, and a date you changed stays as you set it.

Careers page in more languages

Translate an opening. Open the opening in HR → Hiring → Job openings and go to the Translations tab.

  1. Click Add translation and pick the language.
  2. Fill in Title, Location (optional) and Description.
  3. Leave it Published to show it on the careers page now, or save it as Draft to finish later.
  4. Click Save.

Draft with AI. Instead of typing, click Draft with AI. The AI writes a draft in that language, marked Machine draft, and it stays off the careers page until someone reads it, corrects it and publishes it. A published translation is never replaced by an AI draft; delete it first if you want a fresh draft. The button shows only when AI writing help is on for your company.

The intro. In Hiring settings, careers page section,, add the intro in other languages under Intro in other languages.

What visitors see. The careers page opens in the visitor's browser language when the site has it, otherwise in your company language. A language switcher appears once at least one opening or the intro is published in another language. An opening without a translation in the chosen language shows in its original language. To share a link in a given language, add ?lang= and the language code to the careers page address, for example ?lang=ar.

Example scenario

Gulf Trading LLC has staff in Dubai and Dhaka. HR installs the UAE pack on the Dubai entity and the Bangladesh pack on the Dhaka entity.

  1. Dubai screens show dates as 20/03/2026 with the Hijri date beside them; the weekend is Saturday and Sunday as the pack says.
  2. HR sets Language: Arabic on Omar's profile. His leave approvals and his salary certificate arrive in Arabic, right to left.
  3. Eid al-Fitr appears on the holiday list for this year and next. When the date is announced a day later, HR moves it by one day.
  4. HR opens the "Warehouse supervisor" opening, clicks Draft with AI for Arabic, corrects two words and publishes it. Visitors from Arabic browsers now see the opening in Arabic.

Troubleshooting and FAQ

The language I want is not in the list. Only languages switched on for everyone are offered. Ask 9bx support.

I set Arabic on an employee but they still see English screens. The screens follow the person's own choice in the top bar first. Notifications and letters follow the language you set unless they chose one themselves.

The letter came out in English. There is no published letter template in the employee's language. Add one with that language in HR → Documents.

No Hijri date is shown. The legal entity has no country pack, or its pack does not name a local calendar.

A Hijri holiday is on the wrong day. Calculated dates can differ by a day from the announced date. Open the holiday and change the date.

Draft with AI is missing. AI writing help is off for your company, or no AI engine is available. See AI in HR.

The careers page shows no language switcher. Nothing is published in another language yet. Publish at least one translation or an intro in that language.
