Accessibility statement

Accessibility statement

9bx aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA, so that people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, magnification or high contrast can use the product. This statement covers the HR screens (people, attendance, leave, payroll, expenses, performance, hiring and the public careers pages) and the shared parts of the app they use: menus, dialogs, forms, tables and notifications.

Last reviewed: 27 October 2026.

What you can expect

  • Keyboard use. Every dialog, side panel and confirmation keeps keyboard focus inside while it is open, closes with Esc, and puts focus back on the button that opened it. Dropdown lists open with the arrow keys and close with Esc or Tab. Tabs move with the arrow keys (mirrored in right-to-left languages), Home and End.
  • Skip to content. The first Tab on any page shows a Skip to main content link that jumps past the menu and the top bar.
  • Visible focus. The control that has keyboard focus always shows an outline or ring.
  • Labelled forms. Form fields are linked to their label, help text and error message, and required fields are marked as required for assistive technology.
  • Notifications. Pop-up messages are sent to screen readers as polite announcements, and they stay on screen while the pointer or keyboard focus is on them.
  • Language and direction. Pages declare their language. Arabic and other right-to-left languages are shown right to left.
  • Reduced motion. If your device asks for reduced motion, or you turn on Reduce motion in 9bx, animations are kept to a minimum.
  • Light and dark mode. Main text meets the AA contrast ratio in every colour theme, in light and dark mode.

Known limitations

These parts do not meet the standard today. We list them so you can plan around them:

  • Some fields inside table rows (for example tax slab rows, payroll account mapping and timesheet hours) and a few list filters are not announced with a label. Their column header or placeholder shows what they are for.
  • Placeholder text, hints and some light-mode status colours (green success and amber warning text) have lower contrast than AA requires. Text-field outlines are light.
  • Some primary buttons in the Emerald and Amber themes (light mode) and the Navy theme (dark mode) have button text below the AA contrast ratio.
  • Moving to a new page does not move focus to the page heading.
  • Charts do not offer a text or table alternative on every report.
  • Dragging shifts on the roster board and people on the org chart may need a mouse or touch.

How we test

We check every HR screen automatically for missing labels and names, images without text alternatives, controls that only work with a mouse, removed focus outlines and duplicate ids, and we measure the contrast of the colour themes. New screens must pass these checks before they ship. This review did not include testing with screen readers or a full hands-on keyboard walk-through of every screen.
