Getting started

Layout and navigation

How the 9bx screen is organised: the one sidebar that holds every module, finding a page, favourites, the notifications bell, the organization and branch switchers, the user menu, dark mode and language.

Who can use it

Everyone. What you see depends on your role and your plan: a menu item you cannot use is hidden, not greyed out. If a colleague has an item you do not, ask an administrator to check your role or the plan.

On a phone the sidebar becomes a bottom bar with Home, three of your pages and Menu. See Tablets and phones.

The screen at a glance

Area What it holds
Sidebar (left) Find in menu, then My space and All modules; your user menu at the bottom
Top bar Where you are (each part opens a list of its neighbours), branch switcher, notifications bell, banners (payment due, verify email)
Page The screen you opened
Round phone button (bottom right) The web softphone, if you have a phone line

Click Collapse sidebar to shrink the menu to icons and Expand sidebar to bring the names back.

The sidebar

There is one sidebar for every module. You never switch module to find a menu item: every module you can use is listed in the same sidebar, and opens in place. Under Find in menu it has two parts.

Part What it shows
My space Your own list of pages from any module. It starts with the pages for your kind of work (owners and admins, HR, supervisors, agents, sales, store keepers, employees), and every page you star joins it. Put the pages in your own order. Under it, Recent shows the last three pages you opened that are not already in My space
All modules Every module, as a list you open in place. Click a module (for example HR) and its sections and pages appear right under it; open as many as you like. The module of the page you are on opens by itself

Click a part's heading (My space, All modules) to fold it. 9bx remembers which parts and modules you left open, on every device you sign in on. The grid button at the top of the sidebar, and the one beside All modules, opens All of 9bx.

Module What is inside Guide

Settings Organization, People & access, Plan & modules, Workspace, Reference data Administration

Clients is always there, even when the CRM module is off; Contacts needs CRM. Inside a module there are at most seven sections of at most seven rows. A row with an arrow opens a hub: a page of cards for related pages you use less often (for example Call controls in PBX & Call Center). Each module's own setup pages are in the gear row at the bottom of the module, for example CRM settings.

An agent without setup rights never sees Settings, a module's gear row, or the Setup and Advanced sections. Nothing an agent needs for daily work lives only there.

A one-time notice, "Everything is in one sidebar now", appears after the update. Click Got it, or Find a page to open search. Search still finds pages by their old names (for example "Call back" or "Module setup").

Find in menu

The Find in menu box at the top of the sidebar narrows the whole menu as you type: every module you can use, including the pages on hub cards. Matches are listed under their module, with where each one sits (for example "Time & attendance › Leave"), and the typed text is underlined. Use the arrow keys and Enter, or click a result. Esc clears the box. Press / anywhere to jump into the box. If nothing matches, it says "No page matches ..." and offers Search records and actions (Ctrl+K).

All of 9bx

The grid button (or the M key) opens All of 9bx: every module you can use as a column, with its sections and pages, on one screen. A number beside a row is how many pages its hub holds. Type in Find in menu at the top to narrow every column at once. Click a page to open it; Esc or × closes. Owners and billing admins also see Not in your plan with an Upgrade link for modules the plan does not include. On a phone it fills the screen as one column.

The top bar shows where you are, for example HR / Time & attendance / Leave. Each part is a switcher: click it to see its neighbours and jump.

  • The module (HR) lists every module.
  • The section (Time & attendance) lists the module's sections.
  • The page (Leave) lists the other pages in that section, and a hub card lists the hub's other cards.

On a record (a client, an employee) its name is shown at the end. Tablets show the module icon and the last switcher; phones show the last switcher only.

Keyboard

Everything in the menu works from the keyboard. Nothing opens on mouse-over alone.

Key Does
/ Jump into Find in menu
M Open All of 9bx (Ctrl+Shift+A also works)
G, then a letter, then a letter Jump keys: G shows the modules with a letter each (for example H for HR, P for PBX & Call Center, C for CRM); the next letter shows that module's pages with letters; the last one opens the page. Backspace steps back, Esc closes
Up and Down arrows Move through the menu, results or a switcher list
Right / Left arrows Open / close a module or section; in All of 9bx, move to the next / previous module
Home / End First / last item
Enter or Space Open
Esc Close the list, flyout or overlay and return to where you were

The letter keys do nothing while you type in a field or while a dialog is open, and pages with their own keys (the switchboard) keep them.

Tablets and phones

Tablet and folded sidebar. On a tablet, or after you click Collapse sidebar, the sidebar becomes a narrow strip of icons: search, My space (star), then one icon per module. Click an icon to open its menu beside the strip; click again, press Esc or click elsewhere to close it.

Phone. The bar at the bottom shows Home, the first three pages of My space and Menu. Menu opens the full menu on the whole screen: Find in menu, My space and All modules, plus All for All of 9bx.

Search with Ctrl+K

Press Ctrl+K (Cmd+K on a Mac) anywhere. Type a few characters to search records.

Type To search
plain text Pages, actions and records together
> Actions: New client, New lead, New ticket, New contact, Add extension, Start campaign, Add employee, Apply for leave, New expense claim, New asset request, Dial a number. You see only the actions your role allows
@ People
# Tickets
/ Pages

Use the chips at the top (All, Pages, Actions, Records) to narrow the search. Records include Clients, Leads, Deals, Tickets, Contacts, Employees, Extensions and Calls. Without a search term the list shows My space and Recent items.

Key Does
Up and Down arrows Move through results
Enter Open the result
Shift+Enter or Ctrl+Enter Open in a new tab
Ctrl+D Add or remove the result as a favourite
Esc Close

If records cannot be searched at that moment, the palette says "Records could not be searched right now" and still finds pages and actions. More in Search and navigation.

My space and stars

The star (☆) puts a page in My space, and takes it out again. You find it:

  • beside every page in the sidebar, in the folded sidebar's menus and in All of 9bx: point at the page and the star appears (on a phone or tablet it is always there, faint until the page is in My space). A filled star means the page is already in My space;
  • beside each result of Find in menu (or press Ctrl+D on the highlighted result);
  • next to a page's title, which also works for a single record, such as one client;
  • beside a result in the Ctrl+K palette (or Ctrl+D).

Each star shows a short message with Undo.

Change My space. Drag a page up or down to move it, or press Alt+↑ / Alt+↓ on a page. Click the pencil beside My space for edit mode: each page gets ↑, ↓ and ✕ (take it out), which also works on a touch screen. Pages for your kind of work can be taken out like any other. Reset to defaults brings them back in their first order; the pages you starred stay. Click Done when finished.

My space follows you to every device you sign in on, and belongs to you only. A starred page disappears from it while its module is turned off, the page is hidden from the menu, or your role may no longer open it; it comes back when that changes. You can star up to 24 pages; when full, 9bx says "My space is full. Remove a starred page first."

Notifications bell

The bell in the top bar opens your notifications: assignments, replies, mentions, alerts and "export ready" messages across all modules, newest first. The full page offers Unread and Mark all read; clicking a notice marks it read and opens the item. "You're all caught up" means nothing is waiting. Choose what reaches you in Notification preferences.

Organization and branch switchers

Organization switcher. If you belong to more than one organization (for example a holding company with subsidiaries), open your user menu and click Switch organization. Everything on screen (calls, tickets, clients) belongs to one organization at a time, and open drawers and filters reset when you switch. Owners can also Create organization.

Branch switcher. The top bar shows All branches or one branch. Choosing a branch limits lists and numbers to that branch and everything beneath it (for example Mirpur and its sub-branches). It lists only the branches you may reach; All branches appears only if you are allowed to see everything. A new shared record (a ticket status, a service) is created for the branch you selected. See Organizations and branches.

Example scenario

Nusrat at Padma Net Support starts her shift: her My space (Agent) already lists Call history, Chat inbox and Tickets. She presses Ctrl+K, types #5821 to open a ticket, stars the Callbacks page (the star next to its title) so it joins My space, drags it to the top, types "leave" in Find in menu to apply for leave without opening HR, switches the branch to Mirpur so the dashboard shows only her branch, and turns on Dark mode for the evening shift.

Troubleshooting and FAQ

A menu item is missing. Your role or plan does not include it, or an administrator hid it under Settings → Modules → Customize menus. Type its name in Find in menu, open All of 9bx (M), or press Ctrl+K. Ask an administrator if it is still missing.

I want the old menu back. Turn on Classic menu in your user menu. It is kept for one more update only.

The language switcher is missing. Only one language is switched on for the workspace.

"Favourites are full." Remove one before adding another.

I cannot see All branches. You are limited to your own branch (and below).

The page says "A new version is available". Click Reload when convenient.
