What it is for
The extension turns phone numbers on other websites into click-to-call links. If 9bx is open in a tab, the call is dialled there. If not, your extension rings first and then the number is called.
Who can use it
Staff with an extension. Connecting a browser works for your own account only and lets that browser place calls from your extension, nothing else.
Note: the extension is installed manually, as an unpacked extension (steps below).
Where to find it
Click your profile picture, then Browser extension.
The screen explained
| Section | What it does |
|---|---|
| How it works | Three steps: install, connect, click a number. |
| Install the extension | Chrome and Edge (.zip) and Firefox (.zip) downloads. |
| Connect a browser | Enter a Browser name (for example "Chrome on my laptop") and press Connect. |
| Connection code | Shown once. Copy it with Copy code and paste it in the extension settings, then press I have pasted it. |
| Connected browsers | Your browsers, with Last used, and Disconnect. |
Tasks
Install and connect
- Open Profile menu → Browser extension.
- Download the .zip for your browser and unzip it.
- Chrome or Edge: open
chrome://extensions(oredge://extensions), turn on Developer mode and choose Load unpacked. Firefox: openabout:debugging, choose This Firefox, then Load Temporary Add-on. - Back in 9bx, type a browser name and press Connect.
- Copy the code and paste it in the extension's settings.
- Allow the websites you want numbers recognised on.
Call a number from a website
- Open a page you allowed that shows a phone number.
- Click the number.
- Answer your extension if it rings first; the other party is then dialled.
Remove a lost laptop
- Open Browser extension.
- Under Connected browsers press Disconnect next to it.
Example scenario
Farzana looks up a customer's company on a business directory website and clicks its number. Her 9bx tab is closed, so her extension rings; she answers and the number is dialled.
Tips
- Connect each browser separately and name it clearly.
- Disconnect browsers you no longer use.
