Where to find it

Phone → Advanced → Phone firmware, Firmware rollouts and Phone vendors.

Phone firmware

The firmware list holds the builds your phone models can be updated to.

  1. Click Add firmware.
  2. Choose the Brand, enter the Phone model and the Version. These cannot be changed once saved.
  3. Under Where is the build? choose A download address (the phone downloads it from the maker or your server) or Upload the file (9bx hosts it and gives the phone a private link).
  4. Optionally paste the checksum to verify the download and add release notes (what changed, known issues, who tested it).
  5. Save.

A build used by an active rollout cannot be deleted until the rollout finishes. Phones already updated keep their new version.

Firmware rollouts

A rollout updates phones in batches and shows each phone confirming its new version.

  1. Open Firmware rollouts and click New rollout.
  2. What: choose the firmware build, then All phones of this model or Choose phones (good for a pilot group).
  3. When: choose how to update, either at the phone's next settings check or Update now, and set a start time.
  4. Review: you see how many phones will be updated, which are skipped (different model, already on the version, not registered, switched off), then click Start rollout or Schedule rollout.

A rollout shows Scheduled, Running, Paused, Completed or Aborted. Each phone shows Waiting, Sent, Updated, Failed, Skipped or Cancelled. You can pause or abort at any time.

Tip: update two or three phones first, check them, then roll out to everyone.

Phone vendors (zero-touch)

Save the account you have with each phone maker. When you claim a phone, 9bx registers its hardware address with the maker's cloud and points it to your phone system. The phone then configures itself when it first starts, on any network.

  • Some makers register each phone one by one, others use one address for the whole office.
  • Some makers can use an account provided by 9bx. Add your own details to use your own account instead.
  • Secrets are stored encrypted and not shown again.

Claim phones in bulk (on Phone devices, tab Zero-touch): paste one phone per line as hardware address, model and extension (for example 00:15:65:AA:BB:CC, T46U, 1010), or upload a CSV with the header mac, model, extension, brand (up to 500 rows). Click Check list, fix lines with problems, then Claim phones. The tab shows Waiting, Registered, Ready or Failed, and Retry for failed ones.

Troubleshooting

Problem What to do
"Phones cannot be updated from here yet" That brand is not supported for rollouts. Update those phones from their own web page.
A phone shows Skipped It is a different model, already on that version, not registered or switched off.
A claimed phone stays Waiting The maker account is not saved or is wrong. Check Phone vendors, then Retry.
