Getting started

Notification preferences

Choose which notices reach you in the app, by email and as push notifications, and (for administrators) set the workspace defaults.

Who can use it

Everyone sets their own preferences. Changing the workspace defaults needs the notification-settings right; others can see them but not change them ("You can see these defaults but not change them").

Where: user menu → Notification preferences. (The bell itself is covered in Layout and navigation.)

The preferences page

The page, Notification preferences, says: "Choose which notices reach you in the app and by email, in this workspace." It is a grid: each row is a notice, each column a channel. Switches you have not changed follow the workspace defaults; a small marker, Changed from the workspace default, shows the ones you changed.

Channels

Column Meaning
In-app The bell and the live pop-up
Email An email to your address
Push A system notification on this device, even when 9bx is closed (needs push turned on)

Some notices are not sent by every channel ("These notices are not sent by {channel}").

Categories and notices

Notices are grouped. The groups you see depend on your modules.

Category Examples
Tasks Task assigned to you, Task reminders, Overdue tasks
Tickets Ticket assigned to you, Client replies, Teammate replies and notes, Mentions, Status changes, Added as a watcher, SLA warnings and breaches
Calls and queues Incoming calls, Missed calls, Queue wait alerts
Quality assurance QA evaluation ready, QA disputes, QA critical fails
Gamification Badges, goals and prizes
Screen recording Screen recording requests
Own PBX server Own PBX server health
CRM Lead assigned to you, Lead follow-ups, Calendar reminders, Integration problems
HR Leave, Shifts, Payroll and loans, Expiring contracts, Hiring
Assets and inventory Asset assignments, Purchase requisitions, Stock transfers and warranty

Account, security and billing Sign-in and account security, Phone system security, Billing and subscription

Security and billing notices are Always on: "Security and billing notices can't be turned off."

Change your preferences

  1. Open Notification preferences.
  2. Click the switch where a notice and channel meet. A message confirms, for example "Tickets: Email off".
  3. To go back, click Reset to workspace defaults and confirm Reset.

Changes save immediately. If one fails ("Could not save that change") try again.

Push notifications on this device

At the top, Push notifications on this device shows On, Off or Blocked.

  1. Click to turn it on and allow notifications when your browser asks.
  2. Click Send a test to check ("Test notification sent").
  3. The Push column decides which notices arrive.

If it says Blocked, open the browser's site settings (the icon next to the address bar), set Notifications to Allow, and reload. On iPhone and iPad, first add 9bx to the Home Screen (Share, then Add to Home Screen). Your other devices lists devices that receive push, with the time each was last used. Desktop notifications show a pop-up when a notice arrives while the 9bx window is in the background.

Workspace defaults (for administrators)

Administrators see Workspace notification defaults: "What every member gets until they change a switch themselves. Members who already changed a switch keep their choice." The layout is the same grid. Use Reset to 9bx defaults to switch everything back on for members who have not changed it themselves. Switch to the right organization first ("Switch to this workspace to see and change its notification defaults").

Example scenario

Imran at Padma Net Support turns off Email for Status changes because he sees them in the app, keeps Push on for SLA warnings and breaches, and switches on Incoming calls in-app. Rafiq sets the workspace default so every new member gets Overdue tasks by email.

Tips

  • Keep SLA warnings and breaches on for anyone who handles tickets.
  • Use push only for urgent notices to avoid noise.
  • Set workspace defaults before inviting many people.

Troubleshooting and FAQ

I do not get emails. Check the Email switch for that notice and your spam folder.

The Push column does nothing. Push must be On for this device; it may be blocked.

I cannot change the defaults. You lack the right; ask an administrator.
