Who can use it
Organization owners and administrators change the organization's own timezone, currency and language. The reference lists (Currencies, Countries, States / Divisions, Cities) and the language list are platform data: they appear only for roles that have those permissions, and adding languages and translating them is done by the 9bx team, not by workspace users. There is no menu item for the reference lists; people with access reach them by search (Ctrl+K).
Defaults from the country
When an organization is created with a Country, 9bx fills in that country's defaults: timezone, date format, first day of the week, weekend, the month the financial (fiscal) year starts, and currency. About 26 countries have a dedicated profile; any other country gets a general one. If a signup does not state a country, it is guessed from the phone number's country code. Nothing is hard-coded to Bangladesh.
| Country | Timezone | Weekend | Fiscal year starts | Currency |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bangladesh | Asia/Dhaka | Friday | July | BDT |
| India | Asia/Kolkata | Sunday | April | INR |
| Saudi Arabia | Asia/Riyadh | Friday and Saturday | January | SAR |
| Japan | Asia/Tokyo | Saturday and Sunday | April | JPY (no decimals) |
Where each setting is changed
| Setting | Where |
|---|---|
| Organization timezone, currency, language, accent | Settings → Organization (edit), under Localization & finance |
| Working days and hours for a branch | Settings → Branches → branch → Settings |
| Your own language, accent colour, display currency | Your user menu (Language, accent colour, Currency) |
| Your own timezone | The welcome step Your timezone for new members |
| Working week at setup | The setup wizard Regional settings step |
Money and currency
- Amounts are stored as whole numbers in the smallest unit (for example BDT 123.45 is kept as 12345 poisha) together with the currency. Japanese yen has no decimals and always shows like "¥1,500". Kuwaiti dinar uses three decimals.
- About 39 currencies are supported.
- Exchange rates are kept with dates. Converting an amount on a given day uses that day's rate. An organization can enter its own rate, which wins over the platform rate. If there is no direct rate, 9bx uses the inverse rate or goes through the base currency.
- Changing the organization's currency does not change old records. An asset bought for 20 USD still shows 20 USD after you switch the organization to BDT; only new records default to BDT.
The Currencies page
"Currencies used for invoicing, package pricing, payment recording, and cross-border billing."
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Sync rates now | Fetches the latest rates immediately. By default rates sync daily at 10:00 Asia/Dhaka from Bangladesh Bank |
| Add Currency | Opens the create form |
In Create currency:
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Pick from ISO 4217 list / ISO 4217 code | Choose the code, for example JPY; name and country fill in |
| Symbol and Symbol position | Prefix ("Symbol appears before the amount") or suffix |
| Subunit name and Subunit ratio | For example "cents", 100 (use 1 for no subunit) |
| Decimal places, Decimal separator, Thousands separator | Number format. Format preview shows a live example |
| Rate source | Bangladesh Bank (daily, free, recommended), Manual override (you update it), or External API (Open Exchange Rates) (hourly, needs a key) |
| Initial rate (1 BDT =) | A starting rate; overwritten on the next sync (useful for testing back-dated invoices) |
Countries, states and cities
The Countries page is a reference table used in addresses, branch locations, billing defaults and phone codes ("Import ISO list", "Add Country"). States / Divisions and Cities are the matching lists. They rarely need editing.
Languages
- English is the source and fallback; it is always available and cannot be removed.
- The 9bx team adds new languages and translations, with no software update needed. Ask 9bx support if you need a language that is not listed.
- Exactly one language is the default. The default cannot be switched off or deleted.
- Any text without a translation shows in English.
- Right-to-left languages such as Arabic turn the whole page around.
- If English text is changed later, existing translations stay and are marked for review.
- Numbers, dates and currency follow the chosen language's conventions, but the currency itself is the organization's.
- The Language choice in your user menu appears only when more than one language is switched on. Your choice is yours alone; an organization default is set in its localization settings.
Example scenario
Padma Net Support signs up with country Bangladesh, so it starts with Asia/Dhaka, Friday weekend, July fiscal year and BDT. A new Uttara office in a partner organization in Saudi Arabia is created with country Saudi Arabia and starts with Asia/Riyadh and a Friday-Saturday weekend. Nusrat switches her own display language to Bangla in her user menu without affecting colleagues.
Tips
- Pick the correct country when creating an organization; most defaults follow from it.
- Use Manual override for a fixed corporate rate.
- Do not change the organization currency mid-year unless you have to; old records stay as they were.
Troubleshooting and FAQ
The language switcher is missing. Only one language is active.
A page shows English words in Bangla. That text has no translation yet; tell your 9bx contact.
Amounts show a different symbol than expected. Check Symbol position and the organization currency.
Rates look stale. Click Sync rates now (if you have access).
