Who can use it
The workspace Owner and workspace admins. Nobody else sees the menu item, and opening the page's address directly does not work for them.
Where: Settings → Plan & modules → Modules (called Modules Setup before). Plan & billing also has a Manage modules button that opens this page.
The page
- Header: the title, a one-line explanation and, if you can manage billing, a Plan & billing button.
- Summary: how many modules are on, for example "5 of 6 on", with a bar. Beside it is a search box that finds modules by name, description or feature (try "payroll").
- Core (always on): the Core features card comes first. Core features are part of every workspace, whatever modules your plan has or you turn off. Today that is Clients. The card shows an Always on tag instead of a switch; its only button is Customize menus, where you can hide the Clients menu item if you do not use it.
- Areas: modules are grouped as Communications (PBX & Call Center, with 9bx Connect right below it), Customer & sales (CRM, Tickets & Helpdesk), People (HRM) and Operations (Asset Management), so the cards read PBX & Call Center, 9bx Connect, CRM, Tickets & Helpdesk, HRM, Asset Management. Each area shows how many of its modules are on.
- Not available yet: ISP Network and Inventory are not built yet, so they are switched off for every plan. They do not appear on this page, on the pricing page, on plan cards, at sign-up or in the menus, and they are not counted in the summary.
- Module cards: each card has the module's icon and name, what it gives you, a few of its main features, an On or Off tag and a switch in the top corner. A module that is off looks greyed out.
Only modules that are part of your plan appear here. To add a module to your plan, use Plan and billing.
Turn a module off or on
- Find the module's card and click its switch.
- Turning off opens a short dialog: the module's menus, pages and search results disappear for everyone, all of its data is kept, and you can turn it back on any time. Click Turn off to confirm or Cancel to keep it on.
- Turning on happens straight away.
A message confirms the change ("CRM is off" or "CRM is on"). If the change cannot be saved, the switch goes back to how it was and a message asks you to try again.
Turning CRM off does not hide Clients: clients are a core feature, so the client list, client pages, import, export and the client picker in tickets, calls, chats and assets keep working. Leads, deals, quotes, companies, contacts, territories, commission and the CRM reports are hidden. On a client's page the CRM-only parts (the Deals and Tasks tabs, the company link, territory, enrichment, the AI summary and email) are hidden too.
Turning a module off never deletes anything. Turning it back on brings back every record, setting and menu exactly as it was.
Customize menus
You may not need every page of a module. Customize menus on a card opens that module's menu items, grouped by app and section, each with a switch:
- Switch off an item to hide it from the sidebar, All of 9bx and search for everyone in the workspace.
- Show all puts every hidden item of that module back.
- A row with N pages next to it opens a hub page. Its pages are listed under it, each with its own switch. Switching off the hub row hides the row and all its pages; switching off one page hides just that card.
- The top line shows how many items are shown, for example "20 of 21 shown". The card shows how many are hidden, including pages inside hubs.
PBX & Call Center is one module: the phone system and the call center (queues, wallboard, outbound campaigns, do not call, call outcomes). A small office that only needs phones can keep the module on and switch off the call-center menu items here.
Hiding a menu item only takes it out of the menus. People who have access to that page can still open it from a saved link or bookmark, and people without access still cannot. To stop someone using a page, change their role instead.
Modules that have no menu items of their own do not show Customize menus.
Example scenario
A small ISP uses CRM for clients but does not sell with deals or quotes:
- The Owner opens Settings → Modules and types "connect" in the search box. The team does not use 9bx Connect yet, so the Owner switches it off and confirms with Turn off.
- On the CRM card the Owner clicks Customize menus and switches off Deals and Quotes.
- The agents' sidebars now show only the CRM pages they use. Months later the company starts selling. The Owner opens the drawer again and clicks Show all.
Tips
- Hide menus before you invite a large team, so new people only see what they need.
- Turning a module off also hides its reports and search results, so lists and dashboards stay tidy.
- Changes apply to everyone at once. Tell your team before you hide something they use every day.
Troubleshooting and FAQ
I do not see Modules in Settings. Only the Owner and workspace admins see it. Ask your Owner to make you a workspace admin.
A module is missing from the page. It is not part of your plan. Add it in Plan and billing. ISP Network and Inventory are not on any plan yet, because they are still being built.
I hid a menu item but a colleague still opened the page. That is expected: hiding only changes the menus. Use roles and permissions to control access.
I turned CRM off but Clients is still in the menu. That is expected: Clients are part of every workspace. To take the menu item away, use Customize menus on the Core features card.
Is anything deleted when I turn a module off? No. All data is kept and comes back when you turn the module on.
