Team chat

Talk with your colleagues in direct messages, groups and channels, and call them from any conversation.

Contents

What it is for

Team chat is for your own staff, not for customers. Use it for quick questions, group work and short calls.

Where to find it

Open the chat icon in the top bar, or Team chat in the menu.

Tasks

Mention someone. In a group or channel, type @ and a few letters of the name, then pick the person. The box shows @Name, and the person gets a notification. A one-to-one chat has no mentions, because the other person already gets every message. In a channel, @channel and @here notify everyone.

See who read your message. Point at your message, open More and choose Message info. In a group you can also click "Seen by" under your message. The window lists who has seen the message, who has received it and who it was only sent to.

Call or e-mail from a message. Phone numbers and e-mail addresses in messages are links. A phone number starts a call from your 9bx phone if you have one, or from your device's phone app otherwise. An e-mail address opens a new e-mail in a new tab.

Calls

Start a call with the phone button at the top of a conversation. The people in it get an incoming call card on whichever page they are on, with Accept and Decline.

Keep working during a call. Click Minimize on the call panel, or just go to another page. The call keeps going in a small floating widget that shows the conversation, the call time, Mute, Show the call and the red hang-up button. Drag the widget anywhere on the screen; it remembers its place. Click the conversation name to open the chat again.

When nobody else is there. If you are alone in a call for two minutes, 9bx asks "No one else is here" and shows a countdown. Choose Stay to keep waiting or End now to hang up. If you do nothing, the call ends by itself after five minutes alone.

After a call the call card in the conversation shows how long it lasted, and the Join button goes away.

Team chat calls are separate from your phone line's calls: they do not show in the phone panel or its call history.

Administrators set channel creation, message retention and calls, and connect project tools, in Team chat: settings and integrations.

Tips

  • Closing the browser tab leaves the call. Moving between pages does not.
  • On a phone screen the call widget sits at the bottom. Drag it if it covers a button.

Troubleshooting

Problem What to do

The call button is greyed out Point at it to see why. Usually you or the other person has no phone line yet. Ask your administrator.
"This window could not be shown." Close the window and try again. If it keeps happening, contact 9bx support.
